Description of Improvement

This upgrade is part of our Technical Improvement Program (TIP) and replaces the existing obsolete Siemens Microbox IPCs controlling the cross cutter drive functions and all automation functions e.g., counting, splice detection, rejection, suction slide control, cut-off length measurement, web tension and overlapping gap position control.

The existing Siemens Microbox computers controlling the cross cutter drive and automation functions are obsolete and will be replaced by the new Siemens PLC S7 TIA Portal controls and Sinamics drive system.

All previous functions will be transferred into the new Siemens S7 TIA Portal PLC, e.g., counting, splice detection, rejection, suction slide control, cut-off length measurement, web tension and overlapping gap position control. The specification of the cross cutter drive and the speed curve will be equal or better as before the upgrade.
